Professor Igor

Igor is born on October 5th 1979 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. After his school time he went to the university and finished his study in physical education in 2005. His history of capoeira began when he was young, playing with some friends from school till one of them took him to a capoeira-lesson.

“Till today I don’t have a nickname among the capoeira-scene,  so everybody just calls me  by my common name Igor.” His first teacher was Professor Chiquinho from Zona Norte of Rio de Janeiro and with him he started to work out in 1996.

Because he moved to another part of Brasil, Igor continued to work out with Professor Pedigree. In 2001 he went to Paraguay in order to spend a year there doing his first own capoeira-related project.

Taking advantage of an association he had the possibility to give lessons for children and students and made some nice experiences  for him self and in the way of teaching.

In 2002 he received his blue belt, with the consequence of him being the graduation “Professor” inside the group of Senzala. That’s why he’s really grateful towards his teacher Pedigree and his Mestre Peixinho.

“Pedigree has always been and still is a very important person in my life. Not only in  terms of capoeira he’s an example for honesty and a strong personality. Therefore he’s more than a teacher for me: he’s a friend, a companion, a brother and saying this with the words of Toni Vargas: ‘him I owe money, health and dignity.’ ”

Time went by and in 2004 he received the green belt, which was a great experience for him. At the same time Professor Igor started travelling to Europe.

Today he lives in Amsterdam. With his Association “Associação Cultural Celeiro de Bamba” he is trying to establish his own work within the Senzala Group and he welcomes everyone who comes along with a little effort and
strength !!!
